Districts Affected: Upper Yukon AreaFall Season Emergency Orders # 12 & 13The 2017 fall chum salmon preseason projection is for a run size greater than 1.1 million fish. The estimated fall chum salmon passage at the mainstem sonar near Pilot Station through July 25 is 226,100 fish, which is above the historical median of 103,500 fish for that date. Consistent with transitioning to fall season management, the following management actions will occur in the Subdistrict 4-B and 4-C.

Districts Affected: Lower Yukon AreaFall Season Emergency Order # 10                                                                 District 2 Commercial Fishing:Commercial fishing will be open for one period in District 2, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 26. This will be a 4-hour commercial fishing period with gillnets restricted to 6-inch or smaller mesh size. Commercial fishermen should confirm their market before they fish.The sale of Chinook salmon is prohibited. Commercial gillnet fishermen can release live Chinook salmon or use them for subsistence purposes. Chinook salmon retained from commercial gillnet gear must be recorded on a fish ticket as retained but not sold.

Districts Affected: Yukon AreaFall Season AssessmentThe 2017 fall chum salmon preseason projection is for a run size greater than 1.1 million fish.  This level of abundance should be sufficient to provide for escapement, an average subsistence harvest, and a surplus available for commercial and personal use purposes. The estimated fall chum salmon run size (based on the mainstem sonar near Pilot Station and the downstream harvest) through July 23 is estimated to be 299,000 fish, which is above the historical median of 72,000 fish for that date. The first pulse of fall chum salmon entered the Yukon River on July 17 and is expected to be near Kaltag on July 28, Galena around July 31, and Tanana/Huslia around August 5, Rampart around August 7 and the Canadian border around August 21.

Districts Affected: Lower Yukon AreaFall Season Emergency Order # 5                              The 2017 fall chum salmon preseason run projection is for a run size greater than 1.1 million fish. This level of abundance is typically sufficient to meet escapement and subsistence needs, and provide a surplus for commercial and personal use purposes. A mixture of both summer chum and fall chum salmon are currently entering the Yukon River. Commercial fishing in the lower river at this time will likely harvest a mixture of both stocks.
