Upcoming Programs

Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle Restoration and Enhancement Program at Padre Island National Seashore
Tuesday, January 21, 2025, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm ET

The Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle Restoration and Enhancement Program at Padre Island National Seashore is a multi-agency effort to save the critically endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle from extinction. Restoration activities for Kemp’s Ridleys began in Texas in 1978, as part of the multi-agency, bi-national program. Part of this species recovery effort included an attempt to increase nesting of this native species at Padre Island and form a secondary nesting colony there, as a safeguard against extinction. Please join Donna Shaver, the Chief of Sea Turtle Science and Recovery for the National Park Service at Padre Island National Seashore, for a look at the systematic efforts to locate, document, and protect nesting Kemp’s Ridley turtles.

Please note: This program is only being offered as a simultaneous online webinar. Please contact the Library to obtain webinar information for this program.

For many, a visit to Big Bend is the beginning of a long-term relationship with this unique national park. Take a break from the cold winter blues and head to the sunshine of the Chihuahuan Desert with Big Bend National Park Ranger Tom VandenBerg to discover the lure of this special place.
