Go for Broke: The Story of the Nisei of World War II
Wednesday, December 18, 2024, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm ET

In the aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 1942, authorizing the forced removal of Japanese Americans from the West Coast to internment camps. Roughly 120,000 Japanese Americans were interned from February 1942 to December 1944. Initially barred from U.S. military service until 1943, more than 33,000 Japanese Americans served during the war. Please join Park Ranger Paul O’Brian as he tells the story of those Japanese Americans who volunteered to serve their country despite that the fact that their families were incarcerated in these camps. In spite of racism and discrimination, they served as one of most highly decorated military units in American history.

Please note: This program is only being offered as a simultaneous online webinar. Please contact the Library to obtain webinar information for this program.
