Who We Are

Established within the Office of the Secretary (OS), the Office of the Executive Secretariat and Regulatory Affairs (OES) is the Department's principal policy office in the following areas: 

  • The Office develops and manages regulatory policy for the Department, reviews all regulations and policy documents that are published in the Federal Register and serves as the Department's primary point of contact with the Office of Management and Budget on regulatory matters.

    Policy & Regulatory Affairs

  • Executive Correspondence manages and controls correspondence addressed to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Associate Deputy Secretary, and Assistant Secretary - Indian Affairs. In Addition, it oversees the Departments FOIA Policy Office.

  • Manages all high profile requests made to the Office of the Secretary for production of documents, i.e., from the Congress or Courts.

    Document Management

  • OES develops, oversees, & coordinates the Department’s Committee Management Program, including the review & finalization of all enabling committee charters & all Secretarial appointments of actions in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).

  • Since its establishment in 1967, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) has provided the public with the right, and the tools, to request access to records from any Federal agency, allowing the public to be informed about the workings of the Federal government.
