This website is a "plain English" guide to the ethics laws and regulations that apply to Department of the Interior (DOI) employees. It is not meant to cover every ethics situation or all of the details of the ethics statutes and regulations. Furthermore, this guide is not intended to replace the advice of ethics counselors. It is intended to give a basic framework and help you with your everyday ethics questions. However, changes in the ethics rules occur regularly and often quickly. If you have an ethics question, you should contact an appropriately designated ethics counselor before taking action, provide him or her with all the relevant facts, and receive advice as to the course of action to take. Employees who have ethics questions are encouraged to contact DEO's main office or reach out to an ethics counselor in their respective office or bureau.
