Hurricane Sandy: New York (2012)

The Natural and Cultural Resources Recovery Support Function (NCR RSF) deployed a total of six staff from the U.S. Department of the Interior  (National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and Bureau of Land Management), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Federal Emergency Management Agency for 31 months beginning in June 2012. Major technical support areas included: vulnerability of managed lands; beaches, dunes and barrier systems; biological and habitat resources assessment; historic resources, cultural resources; assistance to Shinnecock and Unkechaug Tribes; environmental impacts and vulnerabilities; and resource-dependent fishing and recreational, waterfront, and marine transportation. The NCR RSF Team, working both on-site and remotely, provided input to the Mission Scoping Assessment Report, Recovery Support Strategy Report, and Implementation Plan.
