United States and the Federated States of Micronesia Hold Annual Joint Economic Management Committee Meeting

Honolulu, HI (September 6, 2017) - The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the United States bilateral Joint Economic Management Committee (JEMCO) annual meeting took place Wednesday, August 30, 2017, in Honolulu, Hawaii.  The Committee members jointly allocated $61 million for the sectors of health, education, public sector capacity building, private sector development, environment and public sector infrastructure as identified under the Compact of Free Association, as amended, for the benefit of the people of the FSM.  The JEMCO promotes the effective use of funding under the Compact, as amended, and provides the opportunity for FSM and U.S. officials to discuss priorities regarding this funding and how best to achieve them.

United States and the Republic of the Marshall Islands Hold Annual Joint Economic Management and Financial Accountability Committee

Honolulu, HI (September 6, 2017) - The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) and the United States (U.S.) bilateral Joint Economic Management and Financial Accountability Committee (JEMFAC) annual meeting took place Tuesday, August 29, 2016, in Honolulu, Hawaii.  The Committee members jointly approved $28 million in the sectors of health, education, environment, and public infrastructure as identified under the Compact of Free Association, as amended, for the benefit of the people of the RMI.  This annual meeting of the JEMFAC serves to promote the effective use of funding under the Compact  and provides the opportunity for RMI and U.S. officials to discuss bilateral priorities pertaining to Compact funding and how best to achieve them.

Interior, Census Launch 2018 Enumeration of Compact Migrants in Hawaii, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 16, 2017) – Interior Acting Assistant Secretary Nikolao Pula has signed a Statement of Work with the U.S. Census Bureau to carry out the next 5-year enumeration of migrants from the Freely Associated States in Hawaii, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and American Samoa, as required by the Compact of Free Association Amendments Act of 2003 (Public Law 108-188).  The next enumeration, which is the basis for allocating funds to help offset the economic and social impact of these migrants in the affected jurisdictions, will occur in fiscal year 2018 and be completed by December 2018.

Interior Releases $3 Million to Help Defray Impacts of Migrants from Freely Associated States to Guam, Hawaii, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 1, 2017) – Interior Acting Assistant Secretary Nikolao Pula made available discretionary Compact impact funding in the amount of $3,000,000 for fiscal year 2017, as an additional Federal contribution toward defraying the costs that Guam, Hawaii, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and American Samoa bear due to the presence of migrants from the freely associated states (FAS) of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.  Guam received $1,491,000, Hawaii $1,276,000, the CNMI $231,000, and American Samoa $2,000.

Interior Provides Palau $5.4 Million under Compact, Other Grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 25, 2017) – Interior Acting Assistant Secretary Nikolao Pula made available $5,463,578 to the Republic of Palau, most of which is the balance of remaining Compact grant assistance for fiscal year 2017.  Approximately $400,000 is provided through the technical and maintenance assistance programs in the Office of Insular Affairs to help update land surveying and mapping capabilities at the Palau Bureau of Lands and Survey and maintenance training at the Palau Community College for the next three years.
