In celebration of National Park Week 2022, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland spent several days in Alaska this week celebrating the state’s national parks, public lands, and outdoor recreation economy. 

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland was in New Orleans, Louisiana today to commemorate an historic expansion of Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge and highlighted the Biden-Harris administration’s ongoing efforts to conserve, protect, and restore our nation’s lands and waters.

The Departments of the Interior and Agriculture will invest $2.8 billion in fiscal year 2023 to address critical deferred maintenance projects and improve transportation and recreation infrastructure in national parks, national wildlife refuges and recreation areas, and at Bureau of Indian Education schools. 

The Department of the Interior announced today that the Office of Natural Resources Revenue (ONRR) disbursed $8.78 billion in Fiscal Year 2021 from energy production on federal and Tribal lands, and offshore areas. 

The Department of the Interior today announced that the National Park Service will distribute $150 million to local communities through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) grant program.

New Order Revokes Policy Actions That Undermined Bipartisan Conservation Program

Since 2018, the Department of the Interior and its partners have facilitated 73 projects across 11 states with the more than $47 million being invested in wildlife conservation.

America unequivocally loves its national parks and public lands. For decades, each President and members of Congress talked about how much they care about these lands, but have not been willing to do much more than talk.

The legislation will use royalties from offshore oil and gas drilling to provide up to $1.9 billion a year for five years to repair critical facilities and infrastructure in our national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, recreation areas and American Indian schools. It will also permanently fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund to the tune of $900 million a year to invest in conservation and recreation opportunities across the country.
