Secretary Sally Jewell announced today that the Interior Department will launch a comprehensive review to identify and evaluate potential reforms to the federal coal program in order to ensure that it is properly structured to provide a fair return to taxpayers and reflect its impacts on the environment, while continuing to help meet our energy needs. 

Interior Secretary Sally Jewell today announced $45 million to build the last previously identified Bureau of Indian Education school construction projects. To date, the Buy-Back Program has paid more than $730 million to individual landowners and restored the equivalent of nearly 1.5 million acres of land to tribal governments.

While the KBRA will terminate due to the lack of congressional authorization, we still believe the future of the basin lies with negotiated agreements.
