Today, U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt announced improvements to the implementing regulations of the Endangered Species Act.

 In its more than 45-year history, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has catalyzed countless conservation partnerships that have helped recover some of America’s most treasured animals and plants from the bald eagle to the American alligator.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt will lead a U.S. government delegation—comprised of senior officials from the White House, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the U.S. Agency for International Development—to participate at the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Session with Forum Dialogue Partners on August 16, 2019 in Tuvalu.

Overall, the analysis provides key insight into the impact of grant payments and funding transfers on employment, employee compensation, and gross domestic product in American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.

These companies have pledged to create nearly 10 million apprenticeships and other on-the-job training and continuing education opportunities for Americans from high school to those nearing retirement, so they will have the skills necessary to provide for themselves and their families. 

Secretary Bernhardt toured the Cortez Mine and discussed how government and industry can work together to encourage economic prosperity.

Yesterday, U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Tara Sweeney and Gila River Indian Community (Community) Governor Stephen Lewis signed a lease for the Gila Crossing Community School, the Community’s Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) K-8 school located in District 6 on the Reservation.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will offer 77.8 million acres for a region-wide lease sale scheduled for Aug. 21, 2019. The sale would include all available unleased areas in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Today, President Donald J. Trump announced the nomination of Aurelia Skipwith to be the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt applauded the nomination.
