Thursday, January 9, President Trump announced a proposed rule to modernize and accelerate environmental reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), so infrastructure can be built in a timely, efficient and more affordable manner. 

Interior manages a wildland fire management program employing more than 4,500 full-time firefighters across the country to reduce wildfire risk and rehabilitate burned landscapes on over 500 million acres of federal and tribal lands.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt addressed the Colorado River Water Users Association’s annual conference today in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he praised basin leaders for reaching historic agreements this year to protect dependable water for the 40 million people who rely on the river every day.

Today, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Aurelia Skipwith as Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with a bipartisan vote of 52-39.

President Donald Trump signed Executive Order (Order), establishing the Task Force on Missing and Murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives (Task Force), which will be co-chaired by U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt and Attorney General William P. Barr. 

The Department of the Interior’s National Park Service today announced $47.8 million in emergency supplemental assistance grants for the recovery and repair of historic resources in areas impacted in 2018 by Hurricanes Florence and Michael, as well as Typhoon Yutu. Communities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, the Northern Mariana Islands, South Carolina and Virginia will receive funding for various historic preservation projects related to hurricane and typhoon recovery efforts.
