New tools improve outreach and engagement with the public

The Department of the Interior’s Office of Wildland Fire announced today. the launch of a newly designed website intended to improve access to information about the agency’s Wildland Fire Management Program and increase engagement with partners and the public.
The website can be found at www.doi.gov/wildlandfire. Among a number of improvements, the website provides a plain language overview of the Department’s wildland fire programs, initiatives and budget. It also offers interactive maps that allow the public to explore projects by bureau and location, a curated collection of wildfire news, and information for individuals considering a career in wildland fire.
“Having an easy-to-use, informative website is important to helping the public understand our firefighting mission,” said Office of Wildland Fire Director Jeff Rupert.
The website includes a new blog designed to stimulate conversations about the work being done across the wildland fire community. Posts will feature interviews with fire professionals, first-person stories from the field, and the occasional deep dive into new developments in wildland fire management policy, budget and technology. Blog posts will be shared on Facebook, Twitter, and to subscribers by email.
“I’m excited to see these products come to life,” said Director Rupert. “Engaging with partners and the public is a priority for this office.”
