WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt released the following statement on the 75th anniversary of D-Day:

"Seventy-five years ago, the eyes of the world and the hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere focused on the daring soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force who charged the beaches and changed the course of WWII and the arc of history. Today at the Department of the Interior, through the hundreds of monuments and memorials managed by the Department, we continue to honor the hundreds of thousands of brave men and women who have fought through the years for the freedoms we hold dear. One of these memorials, the WWII memorial on the National Mall, commemorates the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice demonstrated on D-Day with twenty-five of the gold stars on the Freedom Wall. On this day, I hope that people across America – particularly those visiting our memorials in recognition of the members of the Greatest Generation -- reflect on what these brave warriors did for all of us on June 6, 1944."
