DOINews: BLM-Wyoming: Mike Phillips Receives Society for Range Management 'Trail Boss' Award

Bureau of Land Management Assistant Field Manager Mike Phillips has received the prestigious Trail Boss Award from the Society for Range Management.

	BLM Assistant Field Manager Mike Phillips (center) accepts the Trail Boss Award from Katie Schade and Ray Gullion of the Society for Range Management. The Trail Boss Award recognizes Phillips for his outstanding, long-term contributions to, and his promotion of, the art and science of range management.

“It's an honor to receive this award and an honor to work with our partners in rangeland management to improve and preserve the conditions of the land,” said Phillips, who has worked at the BLM's Worland, Wyo., Field Office since 2007.

Prior to that, Phillips served as a rangeland management specialist in the BLM Casper, Wyo., Field Office for more than 16 years. In addition to the Trail Boss Award, he received the Friend of Agriculture Award from the Wyoming Department of Agriculture in 2010 and the Outstanding Range Professional Award from the Wyoming Stock Growers Association in 2002.

Outgoing and incoming Northwest Council Representatives for the Wyoming Section of the SRM, Ray Gullion and Katie Schade, presented the award at a ceremony on March 21 at the BLM Worland Field Office.

During the presentation, Gullion and Schade read comments from Charlie Fifield, a past Wyoming SRM president, who nominated Phillips for the award: “Mike has and will continue to positively affect our Western rangelands through development and implementation of the multitude of projects, plans, presentations and open-minded support that he selflessly provides as a manager; through participation in educational events, public forums, research and mentoring; and best of all, through his appreciation for those he works for and with.”
