The Department of the Interior will no longer require the Bureau of Land Management to prepare an environmental impact statement for approximately 3,244 oil and gas leases in seven Western states.

The Department of the Interior today announced the disbursement of more than $13 million in grants to support the reclamation of abandoned mine lands, furthering the Trump administration’s commitment to American Energy Dominance, environmental stewardship and economic renewal in coal communities.

Through an Executive Order by President Donald J. Trump, the Department will implement a series of bold policy moves and regulatory reforms to position coal as a cornerstone of the nation’s energy strategy by ensuring federally managed lands remain open and accessible for responsible energy development.

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum has directed the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to hold the next scheduled oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of America. America’s Outer Continental Shelf contains a significant source of oil and gas for the nation’s energy supply, and BOEM’s latest estimates of technically recoverable oil and gas resources in undiscovered fields in the Gulf of America include 29.59 billion barrels of oil and 54.84 trillion cubic feet of gas.

Trump, aimed at enhancing public safety and cleaning up NPS lands in the District of Columbia. The new directives focus on revitalizing public spaces, addressing crime and making the nation's capital both cleaner and safer for both residents and visitors.

Under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership, the Department of the Interior, led by Secretary Doug Burgum, is driving historic growth in offshore oil and gas production, reinforcing the United States’ position as a global energy leader.

The Department of the Interior today announced it generated over $39 million in total receipts from oil and gas lease sales held in the first quarter of 2025 – underscoring the Department’s continued commitment to responsible energy development on public lands and American Energy Dominance.

Today, the Department of the Interior announced the disbursement of approximately $353.6 million in energy revenues to the four Gulf of America oil- and gas-producing states – Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, and their coastal political subdivisions such as counties and parishes. Since 2009 when Interior began disbursing funds, $2.35 billion has been shared with the states and their coastal political subdivisions. The funds, disbursed annually, are generated from offshore oil and gas production and support coastal protection, restoration, and infrastructure projects.
