Public Hearing Announced for Wildlife Special Action Request WSA24-06 Regarding Unit 13 Moose Hunt Closures to Non-Federally Qualified Subsistence Users

Temporary Wildlife Special Action Request WSA24-06, submitted by a resident of Glennallen, AK, requests the Federal Subsistence Board (Board) close Federal public lands in Unit 13 to moose hunting by non-federally qualified subsistence users for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 regulatory years.

The proponent of the request notes that the reasons for their submission are conservation concerns for the Unit 13 moose population, food insecurity and public safety concerns for local subsistence users, threats to the continuation of subsistence uses, and provision of a meaningful Federal subsistence priority. The submitted request can be viewed on the program webpage at https://www.doi.gov/subsistence/pending-special-actions.
