Federal Subsistence Board to Hold Public Meeting on Wildlife Special Action Request WSA24-01 Sheep Hunting Closure to All Users in portions of Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) will hold a public meeting on May 23, 2024, from 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. via teleconference. During the meeting, the Board will take action on Wildlife Special Action Request WSA24-01.

Wildlife Temporary Special Action Request WSA24-01, submitted by a resident of Eagle, Alaska, requests the Board close sheep hunting to all users within Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve in Units 20E and 25C for the fall hunting season August 10 – September 20, 2024.

This request was submitted to assure the continued viability of these sheep populations. The 2022 survey indicated a 79% decline in the sheep population. This is a follow-up request to WSA23-05, which closed sheep hunting in these areas for the 2023 season.
