2018 Yukon River Salmon Fishery News Release # 41 - District 2 Subsistence and Commercial Fishing Schedules

Districts Affected: Lower Yukon Area

As of July 5, over 90% of the Chinook salmon run has passed through District 1 and 2, and large numbers of summer chum are present. Subsistence gillnet restrictions are being relaxed. Commercial gillnet openings for summer chum with 6-inch or smaller mesh gear will occur between subsistence periods.

Subsistence Management Actions:

District 2:

Subsistence fishing is currently closed. Effective 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, subsistence fishing will be open for three 18-hour periods with 7.5 inch or smaller mesh gillnets

  • 2 p.m. Monday, July 9 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 10
  • 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12 to 8 a.m. Friday, July 13
  • 2 p.m. Monday, July 16 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 17

Commercial Management Actions:

District 2:

As previously announced, a final commercial period with dipnets and beach seines is open Friday, July 6 from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Two previously announced 6-hour periods with 6-inch gillnets will open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 7 and from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. July 8.

Commercial fishing for summer chum salmon will open with 6-inch or smaller mesh gillnets during the following 12-hour periods:

  • Noon to midnight Tuesday, July 10
  • Noon to midnight Wednesday, July 11
  • Noon to midnight Friday, July 13
  • Noon to midnight Saturday, July 14
  • Noon to midnight Sunday, July 15
  • Noon to midnight Tuesday, July 17

All chinook salmon caught in the commercial fishery must be recorded on fish tickets as “kept for personal use”.
