WASHINGTON – Today, Acting U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt applauded President Donald J. Trump’s announcement that he intends to nominate Daniel Jorjani to serve as Solicitor of the Department of the Interior. Jorjani has been serving at Interior as the Department’s Principal Deputy Solicitor since May 2017.

“The President is to be commended for this nomination,” said Acting Secretary Bernhardt. “As someone who has served as Solicitor of the Interior, I know Principal Deputy Solicitor Jorjani will be an exceptional Solicitor. Throughout his extensive tenure at the Department of the Interior, Dan has distinguished himself with his integrity, an incredible work ethic, humility, and dedication to Interior’s mission.”

As Principal Deputy Solicitor, Jorjani manages over 330 attorneys, encompassing divisions and offices that include ethics; energy and minerals; parks and wildlife; Indian affairs; land; water; and general law, spanning 16 regional and field offices along with Interior’s Freedom of Information Act office. He also serves as the Regulatory Policy Officer on Interior’s Regulatory Reform Task Force and as a member of Interior’s Executive Resources Board.

From 2001 to 2009, Jorjani held several positions in the Department of the Interior under President George W. Bush, including Counselor to the Deputy Secretary and Counselor and Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management & Budget. In addition, he has significant corporate, nonprofit, and legal experience.

Jorjani received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, his Master’s degree from Columbia University, and his Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School. He is a member of the New York and District of Columbia bars.
