Division Chief Audit Management

Sherrill Exum

Sherrill E Exum is the Department of the Interior (DOI) Audit Management (AM) Division Chief at the Office of Financial Management (PFM). In her role, she is responsible for overseeing the DOI audit management division, providing oversight level guidance, governance, and audit follow-up to comply with the full scope of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-50 Audit Follow Up, Single Audit Act oversight per 2 CFR § 200.513(c), and the Departmental Conference-Related Activities and Spending management per Consolidated Appropriations Act.

Sherrill brings over 15 years of diverse accounting, auditing, and budgeting experience from the public and private sectors. Most recently, she was a Supervisory Accountant with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) managing a team of nine accountants in preparing the FBI’s annual financial statements and Relocation W-2s. She also held positions as a Budget Analyst preparing budget requests and responding to congressional budget inquiries, and an Auditor performing A-123 audits, reviewing undercover and government charge card programs. 

Prior to joining the federal government, Sherrill was a Supervisory Internal Auditor at Sunrise Senior Living managing the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) program and Senior Internal Auditor at AOL Time Warner. She began her auditing career at Deloitte auditing government contracting and telecommunications clients. 

Sherrill is a certified public accountant (CPA) licensed in Maryland, DC, and Virginia and graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance. She loves to cook and travel with her husband, and spending time training her 3-year-old cavapoo.
