The Office is responsible for implementing all aspects of OMB Circular A-123, Management's Responsibility for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Internal Control, dated July 15, 2016, to establish an ERM capability coordinated with the strategic planning and strategic review process established by the Government Performance Results Act (GPRA) Modernization Act, Public Law 111-352 of 2010 and the internal control processes required by the Federal Managers Financial Integrity Act of 1982 (FMFIA).

The goal is to have appropriate risk management processes, and systems, to identify challenges and risks early and bring them to the attention of Agency leadership for action.

The Office supports identification of the combined array of risks and opportunities as an interrelated portfolio, rather than addressing risks only within specific projects, programs, bureaus, or offices to provide improved insight about how to more effectively prioritize and manage risks to the Departments strategic objectives.
