OIA Anounces $2.3 Million in FY24 Funds for Four Atoll Healthcare in the Marshall Islands and APIPA

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) has announced $2,330,225 in fiscal year 2024 Technical Assistance Program funding that will go towards supporting healthcare in the Marshall Islands and public auditors in the Pacific.

“Every year OIA provides funding to support healthcare for families and communities from the four nuclear-affected atolls, a program we have supported for many years now as a critical piece of our ongoing support to the Marshall Islands,” said Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Carmen G. Cantor. “This year we are also supporting the APIPA’s efforts to conduct peer and quality control review of their operations across the islands, a critical role given the important levels of federal funds that are provided to the islands.”  

The two programs announced today are:   

Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) - $2,240,225

  • Funds will support primary and special health care services in the RMI for communities of the four nuclear-affected atolls of Bikini, Enewetak, Rongelap, and Utrik.

Association of Pacific Islands Public Auditors (APIPA) - $90,000

  • Funds will support fund the 2024-2025 external peer review and quality control review of ten of the thirteen APIPA member offices which are American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) National Government, and the four FSM State Governments of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap, as detailed in the January 15, 2024, proposal.

This funding has been provided through the OIA Technical Assistance Program. As a reminder, the deadline to apply for fiscal year 2024 TAP funding is March 15, 2024. Applications may be submitted at grants.gov, search CFDA 15.875.

The Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs and the Office of Insular Affairs carry out the Secretary of the Interior’s responsibilities for the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Additionally, OIA administers and oversees federal assistance under the Compacts of Free Association to the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. OIA also administers a discretionary Technical Assistance Program for all the Insular Areas.
