Kelly Underwood

Kelly Underwood, MAI is the Regional Director of AVSO’s East Region. In this role, he supervises all appraisals for Department clients for lands east of the Mississippi. Kelly joined AVSO in 2011 as a Review Appraiser before transitioning to Team Lead Appraiser in 2016 and then serving as Acting Director of AVSO's Federal Lands Division from 2020 to 2022. Prior to joining DOI, Kelly worked as an independent contractor for several banks and clients doing commercial appraisals for multiple property types.

Kelly has a breadth of experience beyond his career as an appraiser. Prior to becoming a contract appraiser, he spent five years working for Intel in Santa Clara, California, where he was responsible for driving software porting and pilots from server accounts Bull, Siemens, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.

Kelly’s experience also includes time served in the United States Marine Corps. He was commissioned as an officer in the Marines in 1993.  He was deployed into the fleet Marine Force after officer school, serving tours in the Middle East, Guam, Southeast Asia, and the Philippines. His highest rank was Captain—serving at Camp Pendleton, California.

Kelly has a BS in Finance from Oregon State University and an MAI from the Appraisal Institute based in Chicago. He lives in El Dorado Hills, California with his wife and has one daughter, currently enrolled at Baylor University in Texas. Kelly is a native Oregonian and often returns to see family.
