Regulations for Cook Inlet Area subsistence fishing published in Federal Register

This final rule revises the regulations for seasons, harvest limits, and methods and means for the subsistence harvest of fish in the Cook Inlet Area of Alaska. This action  also reorganizes specific regulations addressing the Kenai River, providing clarity for the public, and allowing the Board to correct regulatory conflicts that have arisen based on recent rulemaking.

The Departments of Agriculture and the Interior published a proposed rule on October 1, 2018 (83 FR 49322), to amend the Subsistence Taking of Fish; Cook Inlet Area of subpart D of 36 CFR part 242.27 and 50 CFR part 100.27.  The proposed rule opened a comment period, which closed on October 31, 2018.

These final regulations reflect Board review and consideration of Subsistence Regional Advisory Council recommendations, tribal and Alaska Native corporation consultations, and public comments.  Because this rule concerns public lands managed by an agency or agencies in both the Departments of Agriculture and the Interior, identical text will be incorporated into 36 CFR part 242 and 50 CFR part 100.  

This rule is effective on August 9, 2019.
