ANADARKO, OKLAHOMA: The Southern Plains Indian Museum, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Arts and Crafts Board, will feature an exhibit of drawings by Ryan Silverhorn.  The exhibition will run from April 27 to July 13, 2018.  A reception and gallery talk will be held April 27, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.  The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Ryan Silverhorn, an enrolled member of the Crow Tribe of Montana, is a gifted graphite artist.  Born in Wyoming and raised in Seattle, Washington, Ryan currently resides in Anadarko, Oklahoma, and works as a full-time artist.

Ryan’s parents Nellie (Crow Tribe of Montana) and MacArthur Silverhorn (Kiowa Tribe and Comanche Tribe of Oklahoma) are both accomplished artists. Growing up with strong cultural influences and daily teachings of traditional arts and crafts, Ryan’s talent developed at a young age.  His artistic appreciation only grew stronger over the years as his home became filled with a diverse collection of art gifted by family friends who were also accomplished artists.  As a teenager, Ryan enjoyed popular comic and anime art, and these media helped drive his creativity and instilled a lifelong passion for drawing.

Ryan’s portfolio includes posters, beadwork designs, sketch art, and watercolor paintings, but his artist abilities shine through in portraiture.  He employs aspects of his traditional environment to create stunning reflections of often overlooked aspects of life.  Although he prefers working in graphite, if Ryan feels a piece needs more visual impact he adds coloration to perfect his concept.

Drawing helps Ryan express his Native identity and gives him a sense of inner peace.  The encouragement he receives from others makes him grateful to have been blessed with the ability to express himself in such a way.

The artwork featured in the exhibition may be purchased by contacting Ryan Silverhorn directly at (253) 347-4430 or by email at ryansilverhorn@gmail.com.
