The Sioux Indian Museum to Host Lecture on the Women of the Sioux Indian Museum

March 10, 2017

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA: Conor McMahon, Chief Curator of the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB), and Paulette Montileaux, former Curator of the Sioux Indian Museum, will present a lecture entitled, Women of the Sioux Indian Museum, on Friday, March 24, 2017, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.  The presentation is in conjunction with the Journey Museum’s Turtle Soup Lecture Series.

The Sioux Indian Museum was founded in 1938 to display Lakota arts and crafts.  A number of prominent women have been associated with the museum, including Ella Lebow, Nellie Menard, and Ella Deloria.  This presentation will explore the various ways in which these women and others guided the development and activities of the Sioux Indian Museum.
