Public Hearing announced for Wildlife Special Action Request WSA17-01 to reopen Federal public lands in Unit 22A remainder moose hunt area to all users

Wildlife Special Action Request WSA17-01, submitted by Lance Kronberger of Eagle River, requests that the Board rescind the Federal public lands closure in the Unit 22A remainder moose hunt area September 1–30, 2017, to coincide with the State’s non-resident moose season.  

The Unit 22A remainder hunt area is comprised of the portion of Unit 22A south of and including the Golsovia River drainage. Currently, only residents of Unit 22A are eligible to harvest moose on Federal public lands within this hunt area. The proponent believes that the moose population in this area has grown to the maximum size supportable with existing habitat and that there is no longer a biological reason to limit harvest to federally qualified subsistence users.

The public may attend the hearing in person or by teleconference. Public testimony provided at the hearing will be summarized by Federal staff and provided to the Board for consideration.
