Subject: 2014 GreenGov Challenge – Submit Your Ideas by December 5, 2014

I am pleased to invite all Department of the Interior (DOI) employees to submit ideas to the 2014 GreenGov Challenge. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts on how the Department can become more efficient and sustainable by working within DOI and with communities and other agencies.

In 2009, the White House launched the GreenGov Challenge and called on federal employees to submit ideas and suggestions about how to make the government more sustainable. This initiative generated over 5,000 ideas from more than 14,000 employees who shared their best suggestions. The suggestions from the federal community contributed to the development of numerous new initiatives, including guidance for sustainable landscaping on federal property, a guide for implementing a successful bicycle commuting program, and new solar panels on the White House.

The 2014 GreenGov Challenge is a new opportunity to develop innovative ideas for implementation across the federal community.

The 2014 GreenGov Challenge is looking for suggestions in the following categories:

• Carbon Emissions Reduction
• Climate Change Mitigation and Resilience
• Sustainable Buildings
• Sustainable Purchasing
• Energy Conservation
• Water Conservation
• Waste Reduction
• Fleet Efficiency

Please send your suggestions on how the federal government can continue to lead by example. Be bold and creative. Think about where we can make the biggest impact. Talk with your teams and your colleagues.
