On Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will announce record payments to states for their share of revenue from energy production on federal lands within their borders and federal offshore oil and gas tracts adjacent to their shores as well as to American Indian communities for energy production on their tribal and individual land holdings.
The Secretary will be joined in the 2 P.M Eastern Time teleconference by Interior Assistant Secretary C. Stephen Allred, Land and Minerals Management, as well as by Minerals Management Services Director Randall Luthi. News media representatives wishing to participate should call 1-800-369-3382 and enter the passcode 8254. Following the announcement, there will be an opportunity for reporters to ask questions. A news release on the announcement will be distributed and posted about 15 minutes before the conference call at www.doi.gov.
The following 35 states receive revenue from this program: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
