PITTSBURGH— On April 17 at the Fort Pitt Museum at Point State Park, Deputy Secretary of the Interior Lynn Scarlett will present the city of Pittsburgh and the borough of Ambridge with Preserve America Designations signed by Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States and Honorary Chair of Preserve America. A special certificate also will be given to Washington County, which has been awarded $120,000 for its heritage tourism efforts by the National Park Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Pittsburgh Field Office Director Cheryle E. Campbell and other local and regional dignitaries will join Scarlett in recognizing the newest Pennsylvania Preserve America communities and honorees.
A Pittsburgh native, Scarlett is co-chair of Preserve America along with John Nau III, Chaiman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. Preserve America is a White House initiative that supports the efforts of communities and state and tribal preservation offices to preserve their resources through heritage tourism, education and historic preservation planning.
