WASHINGTON, DC – On Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will join members of Nevada’s congressional delegation to announce major conservation, restoration and wildfire protection projects for Clark County, Lake Tahoe and other areas of the state. Participating in the event will be U.S. Sens. Harry Reid and John Ensign; U.S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley; and U.S. Congressmen Jon Porter.
The announcement will take place at an 11 a.m. ground breaking ceremony for a new visitor center at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, a U.S. Bureau of Land Management facility located about 17 miles west of Las Vegas.
Funding for the projects is authorized under the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act of 1998. The funds, generated from the sale of U.S. public lands identified for disposal in the Las Vegas Valley, facilitate a broad array of restoration and improvement projects in the state.
