WASHINGTON, D.C.—Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will participate in a ceremony at the Department of the Interior South Interior Building on Jan. 18 in commemoration of the 79th Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Secretary, National Park Service deputy director Lindi Harvey and NPS regional director Joseph Lawler will honor the memory of King with remarks. Margaret O’Dell, superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, will serve as master of ceremonies. Other participants include the choirs of Kimball Elementary School and Dunbar Senior High School and the National Park Service Honor Guard.
Following the ceremony Watkins Elementary School children will recite Dr. King's “I Have a Dream” speech, at the Lincoln Memorial then place a wreath on the steps of the memorial where Dr. King spoke at the March on Washington in 1963.
