WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of the Interior will hold a special observance program for Hispanic Heritage month at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 in the Sidney Yates Auditorium of the Main Interior Building. The national theme for this year’s national celebration is “Hispanic Americans: Making a Positive Impact on American Society.” The National Park Service planned and coordinated this year’s program in conjunction with Interior’s Special Emphasis and Observances Committee.
Hispanic Heritage Month, as proclaimed by the President of the United States, takes place from Sept. 15 – Oct. 15 of each year. It has been designated as a special time to promote and encourage a better understanding and appreciation by the general public for Hispanic cultural heritage and to honor the extraordinary achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans in the United States.
