WASHINGTON, D.C. – Deputy Secretary of the Interior Lynn Scarlett will participate in a dedication ceremony celebrating the acquisition of 5,200 acres of Theodore Roosevelt’s Elkhorn Ranch outside Medora, North Dakota as part of federally controlled conservation lands surrounding Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
The 2:30 p.m. local time ceremony officially finalizes the acquisition of the historic property, allowing the land and its rich natural beauty and history to be conserved for generations to come.
The ranch, which Roosevelt purchased in 1884, is considered the “Cradle of Conservation” for its role in inspiring the president’s conservation initiatives.
