Deputy Secretary of the Interior Lynn Scarlett
to Participate in Designation of Two Ohio Communities As Preserve America Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Deputy Secretary of the Interior Lynn Scarlett will join Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Installations and Environment Philip Grone in presenting the Preserve America Community designation to Piqua and the German Village neighborhood of Columbus on Tuesday, May 22.

The event recognizes both communities for their commitment to historic and cultural preservation and their promotion of heritage tourism and economic vitality.

Preserve America is a White House initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy our priceless cultural and natural heritage. The goals of the initiative include a greater shared knowledge about the Nation's past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving the country's cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the economic vitality of our communities.
