Secretary Kempthorne to Announce Major Oil and Gas
Development Program for the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf

Initiative to Strengthen Energy Security; Ensure Environmentally Responsible Development; Provide Economic Boost to Nation, States

On Monday, April 30, 2007, Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will announce a major proposal for expanded oil and natural gas development on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. The multi-year program would significantly increase the nation’s domestic energy supplies while protecting the coastal and marine environments, and provide a major economic stimulus to the nation and participating coastal states.

Steve Allred, Interior’s assistant secretary for Land and Minerals Management, and Johnnie Burton, director of the Minerals Management Service, will join Secretary Kempthorne for the announcement. The news conference will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Yates Auditorium of the Main Interior Building. The announcement also will be available to news media via a moderated teleconference.
