WASHINGTON, D.C.— On Tuesday Oct. 17 at 10:00 a.m., as part of this year’s observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Department of Interior will present the 2006 Manuel Lujan, Jr., Champions Awards. The award, named after the 46th Secretary of the Interior, will recognize employees for their outstanding work in carrying out the department’s mission in areas that impact Hispanic communities. Based on the nominations received from each bureau, nine individuals have been selected to receive the award. Former Secretary of Interior Lujan will be on hand to congratulate the winners.
