Jason Peltier Named Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science

WASHINGTON - Assistant Secretary for Water and Science Mark Limbaugh has named Jason Peltier the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science. As Principal Deputy, Peltier’s new duties will include assisting the Department of the Interior in management oversight and policy direction for both the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Geological Survey.

"Jason Peltier has had extensive experience working on water and natural resource issues throughout his career," said Limbaugh. "I am pleased that he is bringing this experience to the broader set of issues he will be dealing with in this new position."

As Deputy Assistant Secretary, Peltier worked with the California Bay Delta Authority and served in a federal leadership role in coordinating and managing the participation of the ten federal agencies engaged with the CALFED process to improve water supplies in California and the health of the San Francisco Bay/Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. In addition, he fills a lead role for the Assistant Secretary in managing the work to complete construction of the Central Utah Project.

As manager of California’s Central Valley Project Water Association from 1988 through 2001, Peltier directed the public education and advocacy efforts of this not-for-profit membership organization.

For the five years prior to that, Peltier served as Assistant to the Regional Director of the Bureau of Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region in Sacramento, Calif. Peltier began his work in public service as a legislative aide to California Senator S.I. Hayakawa, focusing on agricultural and water issues.

Peltier, a fourth generation Californian, graduated from Chico State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and a minor in Economics.
