Norton, Lower Colorado Basin Leaders to Sign Unprecedented Wildlife Conservation Pact |
WASHINGTON - Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton will join Lower Colorado Basin state leaders on Monday, April 4, 2005, to launch an unprecedented conservation initiative to protect threatened and endangered fish and wildlife along 400 miles of the lower Colorado River. The agreement also provides greater certainty for existing water and power operations on the lower Colorado River for communities in Arizona, Nevada and Southern California. The event will take place near Hoover Dam, starting at 10:00 a.m. A news media availability will follow the official ceremony. In addition to state and tribal officials, Norton will be joined by representatives of the major water districts that rely on lower Colorado River supplies, including the Central Arizona Water Conservation District, the Southern Nevada Water Authority and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
