Secretary Norton to Announce Water 2025 Challenge Grants in Phoenix

WASHINGTON-Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton will announce the first recipients of the Water 2025 Secretarial Challenge grants on Monday, June 21. The 9 a.m. announcement will take place at Arizona Falls, which is located at 56th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix, Ariz. The awards include projects in Arizona and nine other western states.

The Secretarial Challenge Grant program for 2004 sought proposals from irrigation and water districts that want to leverage their money and resources in partnership with the Bureau of Reclamation to make more efficient use of existing water supplies through water conservation, efficiency, and water market projects.

The Challenge Grants are part of the Water 2025: Preventing Crisis and Conflict in the West program that supports realistic, cooperative approaches and tools that have the most likelihood of successfully addressing water supply challenges in basins facing the greatest potential risk of conflict and crisis.
