to Hold Media Teleconference to Announce
Grants to 40 States, Virgin Islands to Conserve Imperiled Wildlife |
Interior Secretary Gale Norton will hold a media teleconference Wednesday to announce grants to 40 states and the Virgin Islands to help private landowners conserve and restore the habitat of endangered species and other at-risk plants and animals. Norton will also talk about
her meeting with President Bush to discuss the administration's overall
effort to empower states, tribes, local communities, private landowners
and others to engage in cooperative conservation projects. The grants to be announced,
part of the administration's Landowner Incentive Program started last
year, will allow states to provide financial and technical assistance
to landowners who want to undertake projects on their property. The grants will be made to Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and the Virgin Islands.
