Secretary Norton to Swear in Commissioners of Flight 93
National Memorial Federal Advisory Commission, Sept. 11
WASHINGTON- Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton will be in Somerset County, Pa on Sept 11, 2003, to give brief remarks and swear in commissioners for the Flight 93 National Memorial Federal Advisory Commission. The swearing in ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. (EDT).

The new 15-member Federal Advisory Commission comprises 14 nominations received from the Flight 93 Memorial Task Force, approved by Secretary Norton and the designee to represent the Director of the National Park Service. The commissioners are responsible for developing and submitting a report to the Secretary and Congress containing recommendations for the planning, design, construction and
long-term management of a permanent memorial dedicated to the passengers and crew members who died onboard Flight 93, Sept. 11, 2001.

"The crash site of Flight 93 is a story of selfless courage and patriotism that inspires the true meaning of love of country and the freedom we enjoy," Norton said. "This very important commission will work to help us interpret the story of the heroic deeds of the passengers and crew members of this poignant and tragic event in our nation's history."

Note to Reporters: A media availability and photo op with the Secretary and members of the commission will be held immediately following the ceremony.

Directions: Take exit 10/110 (Somerset) on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Follow signs through Somerset to U.S. 31 East. Watch for the red, white and blue Flight 93 Temporary Memorial Site signs. Three miles out of Somerset, make a left turn onto Stutzmantown Road and follow winding road for 6.5 miles into Shanksville. At the stop sign turn left, cross the bridge and continue straight to first left turn. Turn left onto Lambertsville Road and follow to Skyline Road. Turn right onto to Skyline Road and follow signs to the Flight 93 Temporary Memorial Site.
