Data Dashboards

The following interactive dashboards identify funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) by recipient, as well as orphaned wells plugged with BIL grants to states.  The OWPO created these dashboards to provide insight into where BIL funding is going and what is being accomplished with those funds.

Collaboration with United States Geological Survey (USGS)

USGS conducts studies and provides insightful data that supports the goals and monitoring activities of the Orphaned Wells Program Office. Explore USGS data sets, maps, and studies below.

  • Orphaned Oil & Gas Well Dataset

The United States Documented Unplugged Orphaned Oil and Gas Well (DOW) dataset contains 117,672 wells in 27 states. The dataset includes location coordinates, American Petroleum Institute (API) number, or other identification number, well type, well status, and additional information for each unplugged orphaned well.
  • Groundwater Quality Near Orphaned Wells

This dataset is composed of water quality measurements from groundwater sites located within 1 mile of the locations of unplugged orphaned wells listed in the United States Documented Unplugged Orphaned Oil and Gas Well Dataset.
  • Produced Waters Geochemical Database

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Produced Waters Geochemical Database contains geochemical and other information for produced water and other deep formation water samples of the United States. During hydrocarbon production, water is typically co-produced from the geologic formations producing oil and gas. Understanding the composition of these produced waters is important to help investigate the regional hydrogeology, the source of the water, the efficacy of water treatment and disposal plans, potential economic benefits of mineral commodities in the fluids, and the safety of potential sources of drinking or agricultural water.
