Awarding Contracts to Spouse: A contracting officer for the General Services Administration (GSA) wound up in Federal court after funneling contracts to her husband's employer. Investigators discovered that the officer had directed over $11.5 million to the company that employed her husband over the span of 15 months, all in the form of GSA purchases of food preparation and serving equipment items. As a result of these purchases, the officer's husband received raises and a Jaguar from his employer. The officer pleaded guilty to violating conflict of interest laws, and was sentenced to 180 days of home confinement and five years of probation. She additionally was ordered to pay $161,000 in restitution.
